Submissions

Instructions:

Send up to five poems in a single document to modernsonnet@gmail.com. .doc, .dox, .pdf, .rtf, and .pages are all acceptable formats.

What we're looking for:

Aesthetic poetry that plays with a form of sonnet. Don't feel you need to rhyme, stick to meter, or make it about love (though we're a fan of those things, too.) Just make it interesting, and make it sonnet-y. Just try us and we'll see. We're equally fine with experimental forms as we are traditional. As long as it's good, it's valid.

We love well-written genre work, so send us that please. We are also a fan of satire, when done well.

What we require:

We're pretty open. We only take nonexclusive serial rights and digital archival rights. Put differently, it doesn't matter if your poem appeared somewhere else first, or if you want to try to publish it elsewhere after. We do ask that you inform us if it has been previously published, and where, so we can give proper credit. Similarly, we ask you to mention us in subsequent publications of the accepted piece.

What we don't like:

We're not convinced with the whole "chopping prose up into arbitrarily enjambed line breaks" thing, so please don't send us that.
